Acute mortality effects of carbon monoxide in the Pearl River Delta of China

► We observed acute mortality effects of exposure to CO in Chinese population at regional level. ► Our results are comparable with findings observed in western population. ► The heterogeneity and confounding effects of exposure to CO implied cautious interpretation of results.
