Sediment facies and Holocene deposition rate of near-coastal fluvial systems: An example from the Nobi Plain, Japan

► Accumulation rates on a millennial timescale on the floodplain were studied. ► Core sediments were taken at a former channel and a natural levee on the Nobi Plain. ► Averaged aggradation rates at the sites were about 2-3 mm/yr. ► Averaged deposition rates differed greatly between the floodbasin and the levee. ► Rapid aggradation of the natural levee occurred on a centennial to millennial scale.
