Quantification of climate and vegetation from southern African Middle Stone Age sites - an application using Late Pleistocene plant material from Sibudu, South Africa

► CAGIS is a new method for quantifying climate and vegetation density. ► It is applicable to biased fossil plant assemblages from archaeological sites. ► At Sibudu, the most pronounced changes were changes in winter temperatures. ► Winter temperatures seem to have the most important influence on ecological changes. ► Changes in precipitation seem to be driven by changes in summer precipitation.
