Reconciling arroyo cycle and paleoflood approaches to late Holocene alluvial records in dryland streams

► We review the fundamentals and findings of arroyo cut-and-fill studies in drylands. ► We review the fundamentals and findings of paleoflood hydrology studies in drylands. ► We examine the disconnect between the two approaches in the literature. ► We identify process linkages that could help reconcile the approaches and records. ► We argue for additional studies employing both approaches within the same drainage.
