Most patients do not view questions about their sexuality from a general practitioner as privacy-invasive, even if they had a consultation for different reasons. Addressing this issue requires an appropriate framework that combines trust, benevolence and empathy. If these elements are brought together, the patient will be able to overcome his surprise and know that he can enjoy the opportunity of speaking freely.
