This article deals with the question of “the normalisation of bereavement,” the “work of mourning, dying and death”. The author's objective is to show that grief also has a sociological meaning. This paper aims at providing answers to the question “What do [we] you healthcare professionals have to do with mourning?” Since “mourning is not necessarily a disease, not necessarily pathological”. Rather than an objection to the follow-up, accompaniment and usefulness of the procedures, the question raised here is fundamentally that of the legitimacy and the place that the development of these procedures and protocols leave to the dying patient and his relatives, to the users-actors of a healthcare system or medical department.
