Synthesis and optical properties of yellow emitting garnet phosphors for pcLEDs

► Incorporation of Ca2+-Si4+ pair into garnets leads to blue shift of Ce3+ emission. ► Stronger thermal quenching is observed if Ce3+ concentration is increased. ► Quantum efficiency decreases if Ce3+ concentration increases. ► Ce3+ emission spectrum shifts to higher energies if excitation energy increases.
