Structural properties of hockey stick-shaped particles in two dimensions

► Depending on different molecular conformations we obtained a bended nematic and antiferroelectric smectic regions using a two-dimensional model. ► We complemented the Onsager theory with the elastic free energy of Frank to explain the defects. ► A satisfactory agreement was obtained from the Onsager theory and Monte Carlo simulations.
