Thermo-acoustical studies of binary mixture n-octane, n-decane, n-dodecane and n-tetradecane with octan-2-ol and application of theories of sound speed

► The positive ksE values are observed for n-decane, n-dodecane and n-tetradecane with octan-2-ol mixture. ► CFT and Nomoto's empirical equation succeeds in accurately predicting the ultrasonic velocities of all the binary mixtures. ► Positive ZE may be assigned to weak interactions between constituent molecules.
