Assuming a quaternary liquid mixture to be made up of six binaries, statistical mechanical theory of Flory has been extended to develop the expression for dynamic viscosity of multi-component systems using the concept of absolute rate and free volume theories of liquid state. A reasonable agreement has been achieved between theory and the experiment for n-hexadecane, carbon tetrachloride, n-benzene and n-hexane quaternary system at 298.15Â K. An attempt has also been made to explain the nature of the molecular interactions involved, in the light of excess thermodynamic functions of which sign and magnitude depend upon the chain length of the component liquids.
