Almost free methyl top internal rotation: Rotational spectrum of 2-butynoic acid

► We report the assignment of the rotational spectrum of 2-butynoic acid. ► The internal rotation of the methyl group is almost free: V3 = 1.0090(4) cm−1. ► Ab initio calculations agree with the experimental results.
