RésuméLa pensée humaine participe à la matière cosmique dont elle constitue le prolongement. La bipédie a favorisé l'emploi d'outils, leur conception et leur utilisation, comme stimulant au développement de la pensée. Le feu a agi comme une arme, physique et métaphysique, contre les contraintes naturelles. Il fut le symbole et l'attribut de cette conquête, et de l'homme défiant les dieux. Les formes créées par les outils furent extraites du néant, puis apportées à l'humanité pour y forger son destin. La flexibilité acquise par la préparation des éclats et par l'emploi des manches témoigne de l'aptitude prévisionnelle et d'une totale autonomie atteinte dans les modes d'existence. Les premières machines, tel l'arc, ont conféré à l'esprit la conviction d'un pouvoir absolu, étendu à la distance et à la vitesse, c'est l'attribut des rois et des dieux. Les modes de vie combinés entre les animaux, la nature et l'homme ont offert des voies de subsistance d'une infinie variété, et autonomes vis-à-vis du déterminisme naturel, imposé par chaque composante, considérée isolément. L'intime relation entre pensée humaine et comportements animaux prend la puissance d'une tradition. Les analogies entretenues entre les coutumes et les gènes requièrent une approche réciproque, encore restée embryonnaire jusqu'ici.

Human thought participates in cosmic matter, which it extends. Bipedalism favored the use of tools, their conception and utilization, as a stimulant for the development of thinking. Fire acted as a weapon, both physically and metaphysically, against natural constraints. It was the symbol and attribute of such conquest, and humankind defied the gods. The forms created by the tools were extracted out of a void and then given to humanity to forge their destiny. The flexibility acquired by the preparation of flakes and by the use of hafts evidences the planning capacities and total autonomy achieved in the modes of existence. The first “machines”, such as the bow, gave the mind the conviction of absolute power, extending in distance and speed, the attribute of kings and gods. The ways of life combined between animals, nature and humans offer infinitely varied means of subsistence, autonomous from natural determinism, imposed by each component considered separately. The intimate relationship between human thought and animal behavior takes on the strength of a tradition, similarities between customs and genes require a reciprocal approach that is still in its infancy today.
