Implications of genome wide association studies for the understanding of type 2 diabetes pathophysiology

This review summarises recent discoveries in the genetics of type 2 diabetes and discusses whether the preponderance of “β-cell” genes has implications for the importance of insulin resistance in the pathophysiology of the condition.
