Dopamine D2 receptor occupancy with risperidone or olanzapine during maintenance treatment of schizophrenia: A cross-sectional study

► We evaluated peak and trough D2 receptor occupancy levels in patients with stable schizophrenia. ► D2 receptor occupancy was estimated from plasma antipsychotic concentrations. ► Approximately half of the subjects had a trough D2 blockade of < 65%. ► Sustained, higher D2 occupancy may not always be necessary in the maintenance phase.
