Novel protective mechanisms for S-adenosyl-l-methionine against acetaminophen hepatotoxicity: Improvement of key antioxidant enzymatic function

► We examined SAMe protection of oxidative stress enzyme activity from acetaminophen. ► Mitochondrial 3-nitrotyrosine adduction by acetaminophen was prevented by SAMe. ► We showed that SAMe protection is not by inhibition of CYP 2E1. ► SAMe reduced mitochondrial protein carbonylation induced by acetaminophen.
