Reduced cytotoxicity of silver ions to mammalian cells at high concentration due to the formation of silver chloride

► We examine chloride ions interaction with silver ions. ► AgCl colloids are not stable at high concentrations. ► We report protection role of AgCl colloids formation to stem cells and red blood cells. ► Experimental conditions should be described clearly in evaluating acute toxicity of silver ions.
