Amino-functionalized SBA-15 mesoporous silicas as sorbents of platinum (IV) ions

► A new functionalized silica sorbents were synthesized and characterized. ► The silica-based sorbents were used in the sorption process of Pt(IV) ions. ► Excellent adsorption capacity with respect to Pt(IV) ions was confirmed. ► Quantitative desorption of platinum from the loaded sorbent was observed.
