CCR9+ macrophages are required for eradication of peritoneal bacterial infections and prevention of polymicrobial sepsis

► CCR9 is induced in peritoneal macrophages by inflammatory stimuli. ► CCR9-deficient mice are more susceptible to CLP compared with wild-type mice. ► CCR9-deficient mice struggle to eliminate peritoneal microbe infections. ► Neutrophil recruitment to the peritoneal cavity is normal in CCR9-deficient mice.
