Identification of novel antigens within the Schistosoma japonicum tetraspanin family based on molecular characterization

► We characterized a total of 29 members of the S. japonicum tetraspanin family. ► Seven polymorphic tetraspanins have less potential to be antigen candidates. ► Schistosome TSPs are highly divergent from those of other phyla. ► All 29 S. japonicum tetraspanins are differentially expressed during development. ► Four tetraspanins are promising candidate antigens for new vaccine development.
