Influence of low levels of water salinity on toxicity of nitrite to anuran larvae

► Presence of Cl− increased survival, activity and growth of NO2- exposed anuran larvae. ► Mountain populations were more sensitive to NO2- and Cl− than coastal conspecifics. ► In general, Cl− attenuated the toxicity of NO2- to developing amphibians.
