High prevalence of infections and pathological changes in burbot (Lota lota) from a polluted lake (Lake Mjøsa, Norway)

► High levels of PCBs and DDTs PBDEs were found in fish from Lake Mjøsa. ► The contaminated fish showed macroscopic and histopathological changes. ► High prevalence of Mycobacterium salmoniphilum was observed in fish from Lake Mjøsa. ► Some of the changes seen in the fish are known to appear in fish with mycobacteriosis. ► Fish from Lake Mjøsa had higher parasite infection and reduced hepatic lipid content.
