Trace element reactivity in FeS-rich estuarine sediments: Influence of formation environment and acid sulfate soil drainage

► Trace element extractability was evaluated in estuarine sediments. ► Cd, Mn, Pb and Zn reactivity was high compared with As, Co, Cr, Cu, Mo and Ni. ► FeS is likely to retain Cd, Mn, Pb and Zn in estuarine sediments. ► Trace elements provide a multi-element signature for acid sulfate soil drainage.
