Occurrence and fate of dissolved and particulate antimicrobials in municipal wastewater treatment

► Dissolved and particulate antimicrobials were studied in municipal wastewater. ► Improved assessment of the removal mechanisms in sewage treatment was achieved. ► A significant percentage of fluoroquinolones and macrolides was removed by sorption. ► Removal that could be attributed to biological transformation was relatively poor.
