Mycoflora and absence of aflatoxin contamination of commercialized cassava chips in Benin, West Africa

► We investigate natural infection and aflatoxins in marketed cassava chips. ► Fourteen genera of fungi were isolated and identified to species. ► Toxigenic Aspergillus flavus species are encountered. ► Aflatoxin was not detected in any of the samples analyzed using HPLC-PHRED.
