Risk analysis and development of a rapid method for identifying four species of Byssochlamys

► In genera Byssochlamys, not Byssochlamys nivea but B. lagunculariae synthesized patulin. ► The idhBPF/R primers can be used to evaluate the risk of patulin production in a wide range of fungi. ► Using species-specific primer sets, genera Byssochlamys are identified less than 3 h.
