An alternative emplacement model for the classic Ardnamurchan cone sheet swarm, NW Scotland, involving lateral magma supply via regional dykes

▸ We examine the emplacement of the classic Ardnamurchan cone sheets. ▸ Pre-existing host rock structure controlled sheet intrusion orientation. ▸ AMS analysis highlights magma flow was mainly oriented NW-SE and sub-horizontal. ▸ Laterally propagating regional dykes deflected into 'cone sheet-like' geometries. ▸ Magma was likely sourced from the adjacent Mull Central Complex 35 km to the SE.
