Using liquid crystals for the label-free detection of catalase at aqueous-LC interfaces

► We report a label-free method to monitor the presence of catalase using liquid crystals. ► Aldehyde-doped 5CB has potential use in real-time detection of biological events. ► The oxidation of aldehyde induces a change in the optical response of LCs.
