An efficient one pot conversion of glycerol to lactic acid using bimetallic gold-platinum catalysts on a nanocrystalline CeO2 support

- Au and Pt catalysts on nanoceria catalyse the conversion of glycerol to lactic acid.
- Best results were obtained with a bimetallic Au-Pt on a nanoceria support.
- Lactic acid yields up to 80% were obtained.
- The catalyst may be recycled 4 times without significant loss in activity.
- A TON of 3800 mol glycerol/mol metal was demonstrated.
