Assessing relevant climate data for agricultural applications

► We reviewed relevant knowledge on climate data and crop modelling. ► We analysed climate data in the context of agricultural research in Africa and Asia. ► Large uncertainties in present-day climatology were found over Nepal and Ethiopia. ► Climate models were found inadequate for field-scale agricultural studies. ► De-biasing, scale matching and uncertainty treatment are key future research topics.
