Carbonyls speciation in a typical European automotive diesel engine using bioethanol/butanol-diesel blends

► Carbonyl emissions of three fuels measured along the exhaust line at four engine modes. ► Carbonyl emissions are reduced when flowing through post-treatment systems. ► Alcohol-blends emissions are higher than diesel emissions in these selected modes. ► SR got similar values in all fuels, becoming alcohol blends good diesel-substitute.
