La dysfonction érectile du diabétique

It is estimated that erectile dysfunction (ED) affects globally and on average, one man in five; this figure is 4.5 times higher in diabetic patients, for whom the onset occurs on average 10 to 15 years earlier. ED has a highly semeiological value in diabetic patients, as its onset marks a significant stage in the progression of the disease with visceral complications. It would appear today to be the most reliable indicator of micro-angiopathic complications of diabetes, and the principle marker of possible silent ischemia. The appearance of erectile dysfunction is always a source of emotional upheaval and major relationship difficulties for any man. For diabetic patients, the consequences are even more serious and responsible for a significant deterioration in all aspects of quality of life, in addition to lower tolerance of the constraints of diabetes, that could potentially compromise therapeutic compliance and metabolic balance. General practitioners still have great difficulty in tackling ED in diabetic patients and systematically screening for it, or prescribing treatment for it. And yet we can still change our practices in order to better take account of sexual pathologies in our patients, and notably diabetic patients, to anticipate their needs and propose effective therapeutic solutions to meet their expectations.
