Penile prostheses are the oldest solution found by man to overcome erection problems. Used in various forms since time immemorial, they returned to the forefront at the beginning of the 20th century, before being eclipsed by pharmacological treatments for erection difficulties. Today they are making a big come-back as highly effective solutions, notably for chronic and poly-morbid patients, for whom they present great advantages, and are often the last chance for them to recover a satisfactory sex-life. The inflatable prosthesis currently used give very positive results both for patients themselves and for their partners, with a satisfaction rate approaching 90%. A greater satisfaction level is obtained when the patient and his partner have been clearly informed of the method of implantation of the penile prosthesis, of any possible complications and where the decision to use them has been taken after a cooling-off period.
