- Effect of four divalent counterions on the self-assembly of surfactin is reported.
- Ni2+ exhibits the highest degree of counterion association.
- Surfactin forms spherical, cylindrical shaped vesicles and large aggregates.
- Counterions with the highest affinity provoke drastic changes in the self-assembly.
