The effect of mixing on the liquefaction and saccharification of cellulosic fibers

► We study the enzymatic saccharification of cellulosic fibers at cm-scale. ► Homogenizing enzyme distribution gives faster liquefaction and saccharification. ► Mechanical strength results correlate with both liquefaction and saccharification. ► Signal changes in magnetic resonance images correlate with liquefaction. ► Homogenization of enzyme at cm-scale is paramount to efficient saccharification.
