Swelling movement induced by underground explosion is significant in blasting engineering. In this paper, the swelling movement of multilayered compact material under internal blast loading of aluminized explosive is investigated based on both experiments and simulations. The process of swelling movement is recorded by a high-speed camera and verified by two similar experiments of underground explosion. It indicates that the swelling movement mainly consists of uplift and inertial motion, which is mainly induced by the reflection of stress wave on free surface and the expansion of explosive products. Based on the coupled FE-SPH model, which is validated by experimental results, the swelling movement affected by preformed hole, ground base, thickness of concrete plate, different type of explosive and burial depth of explosive in compact material is investigated by simulations. It shows that burial depth of explosive and ground base are more sensitive to swelling movement than the others. Conclusions of this paper are helpful for the design in blasting engineering.
