Basing on gold nanoparticles (GNP) being modified by chitosan (CTS), the CTS@GNP-pDNA-NGF composites were successfully synthesized via the combination of electrostatic adsorption and photochemical immobilization, which could carry plasmid DNA (pDNA) and target PC12 cells (Parkinson's disease (PD) model in vitro). Such particles could be transfected into PC12 cells by NGF receptor-mediated endocytosis and suppress the expression of SNCA in vitro. Meanwhile, they can successfully cross the blood-brain barrier by contents of GNP in the mice's brains and treat the PD model in vivo by inhibiting the expression of the α-synuclein (SNCA).308
