The funerals of stillborn and young dead children are less discreet in historical sources since the Enlightenment. Medical advances and expression of emotions have increased the interest of parents for their young children. The Catholic Church has alleviated the secular weight of baptism and a birth announcement has progressively displaced it. Maternity units are nowadays proposing secular welcome practices to parents and bereavement support associations are accompanying them. The emotional expression around stillborn and the death of a young child has at last found a place in the familial and social environment.
