Problèmes médico-légaux posés par l'ophtalmie sympathique post-traumatique

The sympathetic ophthalmia (SO) is a bilateral and rare panuveitis, occurring most often after a penetrating trauma to one eyeball. This condition must be well known by the medical expert who must take into account its features in causal link analyze and damage evaluation. This report presents one case of posttraumatic sympathetic ophthalmia. It aims to present the most recent data on this pathology, to detail the bases on which the expert relies to establish the causal link between the OS and the causal trauma and to explain the terms of evaluation of the resulting permanent functional impairment rates.
