Development of a fluorescence-based microplate method for the determination of volatile fatty acids in anaerobically digested and sewage sludges

► We design a microplate assay ready-to-use for on-site analysis of AGV. ► We use a derivatization procedure based on the reaction between OPA, EDAN and the AGV to be quantified. ► We develop a quenching strategy to remove fluorescence of initial EDAN and subsequent amide. ► We applied this method to real samples.
