Calculation of the hydrogen production rate by a palladium membrane separator: Theoretical approaches

► Seven flow-pattern scenarios are considered for gas flow in membrane separators. ► Relationship between H2 production rate and membrane permeation capacity is derived. ► The maximum hydrogen potential production rates are obtained for all scenarios. ► A design procedure is recommended for membrane separators. ► Economical permeation capacity and the H2 production rate are proposed and defined.
