Simulation of co-seismic secondary fracture displacements for different earthquake rupture scenarios at the proposed nuclear waste repository site in Forsmark

• We simulate secondary fracture displacements induced by high stress drop earthquakes.
• We vary hypocentre location, rupture velocity and amount of strain energy release.
• In the near field, close to fault edges, the static stress effects dominate.
• No displacement in the proposed repository area exceeds 40 mm (150 m radius fracture).
• Large stress drops suggest that the fracture displacements are upper bound estimates.
