Proteasome activation delays aging in vitro and in vivo

Genetic manipulation or activation through natural or chemical compounds of various components of the UPS system (e.g. proteasome subunits, E2 and E3 ligases, DUBs) have been revealed to affect the UPS function in cellular models (primary cultures of mammalian origins) as well as in yeast, nematode worms, flies, rodents and humans in terms of proteasome activities and/or assembly and/or expression. UPS activation has been shown to result to extended cellular viability, lifespan extension and resistance to stress.173
