Le recours aux drogues : actualité du rite dans notre modernité

RésuméL’étude des relations sociales et interindividuelles liées à l’usage des produits psychoactifs renvoie fréquemment à l’idée d’une initiation qui échouerait à faire lien. Cette contribution revient sur les principaux modèles anthropologiques et sociologiques qui analysent les fonctions symboliques et imaginaires du rite (sacré ou profane) pour, a contrario, en soutenir toute l’importance dans le cadre des toxicomanies. Les effets des drogues, en tant que véhicules de l’excès, conduisent à la rencontre d’un Réel déjà existant chez l’humain. Notre expérience clinique des personnes toxicomanes suggère que l’initiation aux drogues viserait, au moyen d’un processus de domestication trop souvent compulsif et erratique, l’articulation symbolique et imaginaire de ce Réel, ainsi qu’une transformation dans le rapport à l’Autre social.

The study of the social and interindividual relationships associated with the use of the psychoactive products, frequently leads to the idea of an initiation which would fail to establish a social link. This paper reconsiders this hypothesis. For this purpose, we use the principal models in anthropology and sociology and analyze the symbolic and imaginary functions of the ritual (sacred or layman) to show all its importance within the framework of drug-addiction. The effects of drugs, as vehicles of excess, lead to the finding of an already existing Real in the human kind. In our clinical experience with drug addicts, initiation with drugs would aim, by a process of domestication that is usually compulsive and erratic, the symbolic and imaginary articulation of this Real, but also the search of a transformation in the relationship with the social Other.
