Patients with ulcerative colitis should be treated in an integrative way, i. e., acupuncture combined with psychotherapy. Due to its different aetiology Crohn's disease does not necessitate this integrative approach. However, psychotherapy may be included into the therapeutic regimen, if a „gestalt” coexists in a patient with Crohn's disease.
