Complexité des relations et des discours dans l'annonce de l'arrêt de traitements curatifs

In oncology, the complexity of interpersonal relationships and the words spoken has a significant impact on patient-family-physician-caregiver exchanges. Focusing on the situation where the interruption of curative care is announced, we built this discussion around the way the medical teams and individual caregivers accompany the patient and the family. After outlining the psychic mechanisms involved and the distance between the live experiences of each individual, we propose a set of reference points which might be helpful for the healthcare team. Special emphasis is placed on listening quality; so the patient can more easily focus on his/her own feelings and enter into a closer relationship with him/herself.
