The presence of both palliative care and supportive care structures in the same hospital appears to create a controversial situation. Some would prefer facilitating common actions, while others fear that the specificity of end-of-life situations will be lost. However, when looking at the issue from the point of view of the final objective of healthcare, opinions appear to diverge little. Supportive care carries the risk of over dependence on techniques, while palliative care raises the risk of dominant ideology. Integrative practices and a critical analysis of implicit or explicit ideologies about death can be helpful in avoiding these risks.
