A new French law promulgated in April 2005 recognized the specific rights of dying persons. This law also provides healthcare professionals with a legal framework for concerted care involving other professionals, the family and close friends and thus, establishes a certain degree of regulatory security based on a certain number of fundamental principles: collegial decision-making, transparent decision-making, respect of human dignity.
