Media coverage of end-of-life practices in the neonatal setting came late (22 years after the development of neonatal intensive care) and reflects a dominant medical power despite the presence of a strong parental desire to play an active role in the decision-making process. The press failed to mention the founding congress of neonatal ethics held in 1985, and also ignored the publication which followed in 1986. Political and judiciary powers have been absent from the debate.
