Memory complaints result from psychoaffective disturbances, mainly anxiety related to personality disorders in young subjects or modifications of the self-identity and decrease in self-esteem associated with ageing in older subjects. Memory complaints should be considered as a multifactorial symptom supported by social factors and objective modifications of memory.
