Les enjeux de l'évaluation diagnostique du trouble déficit de l'attention avec ou sans hyperactivité

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) is the most common reason for child psychological referral. Research shows the persistence of the disorder in adolescence and adulthood. Problem behaviour and hyperactivity decrease with age but comorbid disorders and associated behaviours continue to impair functioning in various settings. Actual diagnostic classifications have several limitations. For example, the developmental perspective of ADHD is not taken into account, meaning the criteria are unadapted for adolescents and adults. The purpose of this article is to outline a potential alternative to the DSM's categorical approach, based on a dimensional view of ADHD. This type of approach offers the possibility of having an overall picture of the difficulties encountered and associated behaviours presented. It also facilitates implementation of individualized interventions.
